Youssou N’dour, Neneh Cherry – ”7 Seconds” (1994)
Släpptes som singel 1994 och gjorde ett riktigt segertåg över världen. Det är Christian Falk som har producerat och som dessutom spelar bas.
Tre språk sjungs i låten; franska, engelska och det västafrikanska språket wolof (Senegal, Gambia, Mauritius). Neneh sjunger “bara” på engelska.
Sången fokuserar på de första sju sekunderna i ett nyfött barn liv, när det är helt omedvetet “about the problems and violence in our world”.
Cherry har berättat om hur hon blev chockad av låtens enorma succe (The Independent):
”We did it as an experiment. The tune grew on its own, completely out of proportion. It was out there doing its own thing. But that is a dream when you write a song.”
Youssou N’Dour är en av de riktigt stora afrikanska artisterna genom tiderna och har starkt bidragit till att föra ut framför allt den afrikanska musikstilen “mbalax” till hela världen.
