Den här veckan kommer jag varje dag att få lägga upp en låt inspirerad av ett konstverk med en anknytning till sommaren. Associationen är fri: det kan vara bildens titel, motivet, själva konstnären, någon detalj, ett minne osv som kan kopplas till låtens titel, artistnamn, instrument, stämning eller annat. David Hockey – A Bigger Splash (1967)
U2 – ”Stuck In a Moment You can’t Get Out Of” (2000)
Konstnären till The Big Splash, David Hockney, har ju uttryckt fascination över att ha ägnat två veckor till att avbilda en händelse som tog två sekunder. Jag tycker det låter smått klaustrofobiskt, som att ha fastnat i ett ögonblick.
Den här sången är skriven som en sorts fiktivt samtal mellan två vänner om självmord. Ännu mer berörande blir det då Bono har berättat att det egentligen handlar om hur han försöker övertyga sångaren i INXS, Michael Hutchence, om hur dumt och meningslöst det var. Denne var en nära vän. Hutchence hittades död och det mesta pekar ju mot att han tog sitt liv.
I en intervju i Rolling Stones (2000) har Bono sagt:
“[His suicide] really threw me. Can you really be that busy that you don’t notice your mate on the slide, as it were? I am the most loyal, and the most unreliable, friend. It’s the way I am – I forget phone numbers. […] I don’t use the phone for fun now. […] So I just remember feeling this overpowering sense of guilt. And then anger. And annoyance. That song is an argument. It’s a row between mates. You’re kind of trying to slap somebody around the face, trying to wake them up out of an idea.”
