Pixies – “Dead” (1989)
Pixies är mycket för att hämta stoff ur bibeln. Så också här. Låten handlar om Davids förförelse av Bathsheba, ur Davids perspektiv.
Black Francis har berättat (för Esquire):
”This song falls into a category I would call biblical. Some stories, mythological or biblical, whether they really happened, some stories resonate. ‘Dead’ specifically is referencing David and Bathsheba.”
Kung David svinar, som maktmän brukar: fluktar, förför (kanske våldtar), skickar Bathshebas man ut i kriget för att dö. Sen får han sitt straff till slut.
