Sångaren Corey Taylor berättar (i Kerrang! Magazine):
“Goodbye” is actually a song that refers to the day that we lost Paul, and the mood, or the scene, is basically set where the whole band was sitting in my house, and we were all so numb and so destroyed that we were just looking at each other, going, ‘Fuck? What now? What just happened?’ The closest thing that I can even compare it to is if you were standing next to a bomb, and it goes off, and you’re not physically hurt, but there’s such a bombastic repercussion that happens with that, that you’re just thrown for a loop, and that’s what that song is. It’s a piece of getting back together and hoping that we can all stand as one, and try to find some hope in one of the darkest days of this band’s career.”
”Come on over
Come unglued
It’s not easy
To see all of you
Help yourselves
Help is on the way
Well there’s nothing to lose
So now, I have something to say
Maybe we can all recognize a moment of silence
Maybe we can finally agree on a sane point of view
Long time ago we believed that we were united
So the last thing on Earth I am ready to do is say, goodbye”
